Bruxelles has the perfume of gaufres just cooked in the kiosks, close to the historic “Grand Place”. You can also recognize the perfume of the spices of the multiethnic market in Matonge.
But if you’re looking for old, used vinyls, you should move to Marolles, an interesting and colorful neighborhood situated in the south side of Bruxelles. Full of shops of antiques, ethnics, coffees and restaurants, it is also famous for its flea market in Place du Jeu de Balle.
Here it will be easy to find rare pieces and records. You just have to be patient and let the time roll on in this paradise. If you are vintage lovers, you’ll lose yourself searching though the numerous stalls. A lot of stuff is also placed on the ground, like in the old city markets.
It will be like going back to the past, surrounded by the sound of acoustic guitars and harps of the buskers.
Marolles was the old popular borough of the working people. Redeveloped, today is the place where you can find the best antiques shops of the city as well various fashionable restaurants.
Very close you’ll find also nightclubs, some interesting Jazz clubs, maybe the most outstanding is Sound Jazz Club, Rue de la Tulipe 28 1050 Elsene.
Music books, old prints, music sheets, Lps and singles are placed in paper boxes betwee the exhibitors, various prices. Rock and Prog music, classical… you’ll find also classical music cassettes
The best moment of the day for shopping is the morning, even if the Place will be full of people from the very first hour of the day: tourists and residents both well know Place du Jeu de Balle, very close if you’re arriving from Saint Gilles.
Bruxelles is a stimulant city but also cold and rainy, even in late spring. For a brief pause we suggest you to stop for a croissant.
An amazing place, a house-museum owned by a multifaceted artist which is unique and hospitable. During the period I was there, it was possible to stop here for a brunch based on french cuisine. Jazz music as a soundtrack and the choice to reach the third floor of the palace to take a picture of the market from up there.
Do not miss it if you are music lovers or just tourists.
